Summary of meeting between MBWW and Wiltshire Council Friday 8th August 2026

On Friday 8th August, members of MB Weightwatchers, Norton Ferris and Kingston Deverill met with Cllr Taylor Wright, the new portfolio holder for highways in the Wiltshire Council cabinet. Also present were Martin Aldam, Senior Transport Planner, and Councillors Bill Parks, and George Jeans.

In the meeting, Cllr Taylor Wright explained that the HGV weight limit campaign was one of the first community campaigns to cross his desk after taking up his role, and he said he would like the residents at the meeting to explain why we were campaigning. Everyone present described how the HGVs impacted their daily lives and the work that has been done to campaign for the weight limit.

Cllr Bill Parks, the councillor representing Maiden Bradley, noted that following a meeting with the CEO of Wiltshire Council, he had received an email confirming that consultation on weight limits for Corsley, Chapmanslade and Maiden Bradley would start by the end of 2025. He also explained his ongoing efforts to engage with National Highways to identify a solution.

Martin Aldham, the Wiltshire Council officer present, explained that national highways and Wiltshire Council are currently reviewing road improvements on the A350 and A303 junction. He noted that the Maiden Bradley weight limit was part of these discussions and that an outcome of the review was expected in the autumn. It was agreed that the next meeting would follow news of this review.

MBWW residents asked Cllr Wright to ensure that the area-wide weight limit along the B3092 was a priority for the new administration. They also asked him to consider temporary arrangements at Willoughby Hedge, should the timeline and funding for improvements to the A350/303 be too distant. The representative from Kingston Deverill reminded Cllr Wright that the weight limit must be area-wide, as originally envisaged, in order to protect villages in the whole area from lorries taking short-cuts.

It was agreed that Cllr Wright would report on the meeting to his cabinet member and follow up on the national highways review. It was also agreed that he would open up dialogue with the quarry companies.
