The vast majority of dog owners are caring, responsible individuals but there are still some who do not clean up after their pets. Whereas incidences of dog fouling on our roads and verges here in the Upper Deverills are few, there have been some recent reports of mess being left on private borders, driveways and the like. Not only is it deeply unpleasant – it sticks to shoes, wheelchair and buggy wheels (and consequently hands) and smells awful when brought back into the house – it is also dangerous. Although rare, contact with dog excrement can cause toxocariasis – a nasty infection that can lead to dizziness, nausea, asthma and even blindness or seizures. This, of course, can be particularly serious in the current COVID-19 situation.

Please remember to clean up after your dog.
